Lake Havasu City Named Best Non-Ocean Beach Destination

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (October 3, 2011) – The word “beach” usually conjures up the image of Malibu surfers in California or clam digging in Maine, with the ocean stretching out to the horizon in the distance. However, according to Yahoo’s travel section, Wanderlust; spectacular beaches don’t necessarily require an ocean.

In Yahoo’s September 15, 2011 travel blog, Lake Havasu City, the home of the historic London Bridge, was named the Best Non-Ocean Beach Destination in North America. Rounding out the top five in the category were Sleeping Bear Dunes, Michigan; World Waterpark, Alberta, Canada; Lake Travis, Texas; and Lake Powell, Utah.

In addition to its beaches, Lake Havasu City is known for its casual, laid back attitude, multitude of recreational water sports, sparkling blue lake and the London Bridge. That’s right, the London Bridge resides in sunny Arizona, where it was moved and reconstructed brick-by-brick in 1971. It continues to draw visitors from around the globe, and is the second most-visited attraction in Arizona, with the first being the Grand Canyon.

Lake Havasu City is located on the Arizona/California border, and is a short 2 1/4 hour drive from Las Vegas, 3 hours from Phoenix, and 4-5 hours from Los Angeles. It is easily accessible via main highways and interstate freeways.
